The "Soul Surfer" Movie Preview
Six Words:
SEE SOUL SURFER MOVIE APRIL 8th
Soul Surfer Movie

Last night my husband and I, and some other family members and friends were blessed to pre~screen the PG rated Soul Surfer movie here in Wichita, Kansas. It was the true story of Bethany Hamilton...the teenage girl who lost her arm in a shark attack in Hawaii while surfing.
Although this is not actually a "Christian" movie, the story shows her close knit family, and also her circle of close friends who helped her through the tragedy. And her strong faith in Jesus Christ is her true strength. And this is evidenced as they quote scripture, pray together, and live out their faith before others.
After the tragedy her father is sitting in her hospital room reading the Bible and she asks him if she will surf again, and he says he knows she "can do all things through Him who gives her strength." Philippians 4:13 The real Bethany and her family insisted that the scriptures be in the movie. They are a family of faith and this is a big part of this movie.
Annasophia Robb plays Bethany. Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt play Bethany's parents, and Carrie Underwood plays her church, youth leader.
The scenery is outstanding; as are the surfing scenes. I thought of the power of God with each pounding wave!
This movie encourages us to cling to our faith in God during our trials, and to try again each time we fail...until our faith brings the victory, as God strengthens us.
April 8th is when Soul Surfer opens, and I hope you will all go and see it. You will be so touched by her story.
I could relate to the loss of her arm in a personal way, because my own mother lost her right arm in an auto accident as a young wife and mother of one small child. She went on to raise 4 children, having to learn to do everything with one arm. The words that I use to describe my mother are Fortitude, and Faith. And these are words that could also describe Bethany Hamilton.

I have heard about this movie on the Christian radio station we listen to. It sounds like a fantastic movie and I am looking forward to it. That is wonderful that you were able to pre-screen it. Thanks for sharing your review.
Hugs,
Amy
I hadn't heard about this movie until you mentioned it. It sounds great! Really inspirational and I am SO happy that they included her faith in it as well. It is very discouraging when they try to cut that part out of movies. Thanks for sharing another great movie for me to rent! Who knows- maybe I will be ready for a babysitter by then and Mike can take me on a date!
blessings to you, Linda.
Have a green day!
I want to see this movie.
Appreciate you doing a shout out about the movie.
Happy Spring,
d
If you say it is a good movie and worth watching, then I most definately will have to go see it when it comes in our area.
You're so lucky that you got to see it already! I just blogged about that one and also "The Grace Card" and "Courageous" (which comes out in September). It's great to have some wholesome movies out that encourage our faith.
Jeremy got to see this with Elayna. They loved it!!! Elayna has the poster hanging in her room :)
I knew the story but didn't know there was a movie coming out. How cool that you already got to see it. I will have to watch for it to come out.
Wow - sounds like an amazing movie. I think I might have to plan a date night with my hubby to see it when it comes to our area. And thanks for sharing about your mom - sounds like a true woman of faith indeed to go through such a struggle and raise a daughter like you who loves the Lord and shares His love in all you do.
That sounds like a great movie and I love the fact that they allowed faith to be such a strong part of the movie. I saw the book when I was at the bookstore yesterday and it reminded me of you :)
Can't wait to see it! How awesome that they were insistent on scripture and faith in the movie!
Thanks for the review. I will keep this one in mind for the future when it's released on DVD. Have an amazing weekend!
